Originally established in 1869, Chatham University can trace its origins back to the Pennsylvania Female College, which was set up by a local reverend. Today, the Pennsylvania university educates both male and female students, with about 2,000 currently enrolled. The student body is split fairly evenly between undergraduates and postgraduates.
Interestingly, the main Chatham University campus in the Shadyside neighborhood has been designated an arboretum since 1998, and is home to over 115 species - so you won’t be short of shady trees to sit under when revising in the summer!
Academically, the university has much in common with traditional American liberal arts institutions. In addition, the College for Graduate Studies offers master’s and doctoral programs, in subjects such as architecture, business and health sciences. The university also has a college focused on providing continuing education through both online and on-campus teaching.
