North-Western State Medical University named after Mechnikov

Today about 5 thousand students study at the University, of which more than 400 are foreign.

Pre-university training:

• Distant preparatory courses (chemistry, biology, Russian), training period: December 01-May 31
• Preparatory courses for Russian citizens (evening, daytime, 8 and 6 months)
• Preparatory courses for foreign citizens:

        1) "Preparation for entering the University" (from October 01 to June 01)

        2) "Russian language for foreign citizens planning residency and postgraduate studies" (from October 15 to July 15)

For foreign citizens who are unable to come to Russia, training is carried out in distant form, using Internet resources.

• Career guidance course - Minor Medical Faculty for senior high school students. Introduction to the peculiarities of higher education, the process of becoming a doctor and the specifics of work.
• Specialized biomedical groups for senior school students.

Training:

5 training programs:

• General Medicine (6 years of study)

Upon completion of the course, the graduate is awarded the qualification of "Medical doctor/Doctor of Medicine". After receiving accreditation, graduates can work as a therapist in a polyclinic or an outpatient clinic. In order to work as a specialist phycisian, the graduate completes residency training.

• Preventive Medicine (6 years of study)

Upon completion of the course, the graduate is awarded the qualification "Doctor in general hygiene, in epidemiology".

• Stomatology (6 years) - "Doctor of stomatology"
• Pediatrics (6 years) - "Pediatrician"
• Nursing care (4 years of study, Bachelor's degree) - "Academic nurse/brother. Teacher."

In 2020, we opened enrollment of foreign nationals to the MD course in General Medicine (spetsialitet), implementes partly in English. To be eligible for undergraduate study at Mechnikov University, applicants should have completed secondary school education and pass the entrance exams in chemistry and biology.

Features of training: in 1-2 years of training considerable attention is paid to to the study of the Russian language, clinical disciplines prevail in 4-6 years of training. The practice is aimed to effectively prepare students for interacting with patients: in 1-2 years of training the practice takes place using innovative technologies, in simulation classes; for 3-4-5 years of study, the productive practice takes place in medical organizations.
