Master's degree is the second level of higher education. VolSU implements 35 Master’s degree majors in the following areas of knowledge: Mathematical and Natural Sciences; Engineering, Technologies and Technical Sciences; Social Sciences; Education and Pedagogical Sciences; Human Sciences. The standard duration of study is 2 years. Master’s degree programs allow students to deepen their knowledge in chosen fields of expertise. Students can also change the vector of education and choose a different field of study. For admission to a master's degree program an applicant must pass the entrance exams.

After graduating from a Master’s degree program students may continue their education in a Ph.D. program. After its completion students defend the dissertation for a scientific degree of candidate of Sciences. The standard period of study is 3 years.
