Founded in 2007, Acıbadem Mehmet Ali Aydinlar University (ACU) is a non-profit foundation university in Istanbul, Turkey, dedicated to the field of health sciences. The founder is Mehmet Ali Aydinlar, an entrepreneur and founder of Acıbadem Healthcare Group, Turkey’s leading healthcare institution.
As of 2019, ACU serves 4374 undergraduate and graduate students through School of Medicine, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Health Sciences, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Faculty of Engineering, two Vocational Schools and four graduate schools; Institute of Health Sciences, Institute of Social Sciences, Institute of Natural and Applied Sciences, and Institute of Senology.
ACU operates in a main campus and two affiliated hospitals (Acıbadem Maslak Hospital and Acıbadem Atakent Hospital) for education and research purposes. Kerem Aydınlar Campus, centrally located on the Asian side of Istanbul offers students a privileged university life.
The Clinical Simulation and Advanced Endoscopic - Robotic Surgery Training Center (CASE) is one of the most comprehensive medical training centers in the world with its accommodation of multiple departments and advanced technological infrastructure. CASE received the “Center of Excellence” certificate awarded by the CAE Academy to only two medical training centers worldwide. The Center is accredited by the Network of Accredited Clinical Skills Centers of Europe (NASCE) and the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH), providing pre- and post-graduate training. Since its establishment in 2013, the center has provided training to more than 100,000 people.
ACU School of Medicine’s medical education program is accredited since 2017 by TEPDAD, the accredited agency in Turkey by World Federation for Medical Education (WFME). Faculty of Health Sciences Department of Nursing is also accredited by the Association for Evaluation and Accreditation of Nursing Programs until 2021. Acıbadem University offers its students the opportunity to study abroad at esteemed partner universities under the Erasmus program having bilateral agreements with Europe’s most notable universities. The School of Medicine is a member of Visiting Student Learning Opportunities (VSLO) program organized by American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC). More than 100 of the university’s students are international, totaling %2 per cent of the student body, and representing 29 different countries.
Advanced research infrastructure in the university facilitates high quality research in life sciences and biotechnology fields. ACU also supports initiatives related to health technologies via the Incubation Center established within the university. The Center has supported 181 projects since its establishment in 2017.
ACU aims to be an academic institutional model for research-oriented health university for Turkey and a reference to the World.
