Suratthani Rajabhat University (SRU) first began in 1973 as Suratthani Teachers College. In 1992 the college's mandate was expanded and His Majesty King Bhumibol changed the name to Suratthani Rajabhat Institute. Over the next few years, the institute advanced rapidly and in 2004 met the requirements needed to become a fully accredited university. Since its inception as a teachers' college, SRU has remained committed to serving both local communities and the nation as a whole. Through the programs offered to students, the community outreach activities and events targeting various community groups and the research projects conducted by instructors and grad students, SRU continues to develop the knowledge, skills and work competencies needed to meet present and future needs within the communities it serves. To help meet its commitment to community development, the university has established cooperative agreements with leading universities abroad in Asia, Europe and North America, both for faculty development and for student exchanges. At present, SRU is proud to be the number one rajabhat university in southern Thailand. With over four decades of experience to draw upon, SRU has achieved the status of a prototype university and continues to steadfastly enhance its potential through the quality programs and courses offered to its full-time and part-time students, through the modern educational, cultural and recreational facilities available on its two campuses and through the numerous training workshops, seminars and community events hosted each year. Our Campuses Located on Thailand's east coast about 700 kilometres south of Bangkok, Suratthani Rajabhat University has two campuses within the province of Surat Thani. • Surat Thani Main Campus Located about 15 kilometres outside the provincial capital, the main campus is the main administrative centre and home to the university's eight faculties: Education, Humanities & Social Sciences, Management Science, Science and Technology, Nursing, Law, International School of Tourism, and Graduate School. • Koh Samui Campus The University has established the International School of Tourism on the island of Koh Samui, partnering with various first-class hotels and domestic and international airlines, to provide on-the-job training for students and to serve as a knowledge-sharing center.
