Design School Kolding
About
Design School Kolding is an internationally acclaimed design university located in Denmark. We offer a high quality Master’s Degree Programme with teaching based on innovative practice and research in close collaboration with the business community. The school is a recognized member of the Cumulus international network of top design schools. Our Programme honours the values that Danish Design descends from, and we teach our students design methods including user involvement and co-creation – all with a view to create meaningful and aesthetic solutions. We work with tools, techniques, concepts and methods and offer an international academic setting. At the same time, we value professional practice and provide excellent workshop facilities. Our faculty are experienced practitioners, and our esteemed visiting faculty ensures inspiration from current professional practice.
We dedicate our Programme and our research and development activities to the issues of Sustainability, Social Inclusion, and Play. The Programme focuses on collaboration with the business community and wider society (e.g. LEGO, Ecco, local hospitals, banks, etc.) along with individual courses based on specific cases. Collaborations and courses have strong elements of making, engaging, and co-creating with users. This could involve clothes, games, products, user interfaces, services, physical surroundings, toys – whatever supports the playful human being, sustainable living, or a socially inclusive society. All courses conclude with a design project. Therefore, along with your ability to communicate and put yourself on display, your portfolio gets a boost.
When applying for our MA Programme, you will be asked to choose between three specialisations in ’Design for People’, ’Design for Planet’ or ’Design for Play’. You must also express your preference for one of the five professional clusters you want to focus on: Fashion Design, Textile Design, Industrial Design, Communication Design or Accessory Design. There will not be any clearly delineated boundaries between the three specialisations – rather, there will be a focus on cross-disciplinary courses.
