Liepaja University (LiepU) is a regional university with large experience and academic traditions. It was founded in 1954 on the basis of Teacher Training Institute. It is located in Kurzeme region in the heart of Liepaja city - a city with long and diverse history, unique architecture and atmosphere, and mostly - wonderful sea and beach.
LiepU goal is to provide research-based, essential for the region, nationally and internationally competitive and top-quality higher professional, academic and lifelong educational opportunities and to strengthen a creative, culture-oriented society.
The university is divided into four faculties: 1) Science and Engineering, 2) Management and Social Sciences, 3) Humanities and Arts, and 4) Pedagogy and Social work. LiepU implements 37 different study programmes, including 4 Doctoral programmes, 11 Master’s programmes and 22 Bachelor’s programmes. It offers 8 international study programmes fully taught in English.
There are over 1 400 students in LiepU and more than 20 thousand graduates. LiepU academic staff constitutes more than 200 persons, 68 per cent of them hold a doctoral degree.
LiepU develops innovative research in four research institutes and multiple research centres and laboratories. LiepU carries out research in vast and diverse fields, such as - New media art, Renewable, nanomaterial energy, Smart technologies, E-resources and information technologies, Latvian language, History, culture and theatre, Management sciences, Educational science, Mathematics, Music therapy, Speech therapy, Sustainable development etc. The university participates in a national scale and EU projects.
