Northern Border University (NBU) is a public university located in the Northern Border Region of Saudi Arabia, home to a large number of archaeological and historical sites dating back to pre-Islamic times. The Northern Border Region lies in the farthest north of the Kingdom, bordering both Iraq and Jordan, which is one of the important passages of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the northern part.  The region is characterized by plenty of pasturelands and became an economic pillar of the country after the discovery of different minerals like phosphates in large amounts in Turaif and Hazam al-Jalamid. The discovery has contributed to the launching of King Abdullah's project of upgrading Wa'd ash-Shamal City for Mineral Industries which will become a major development tributary. Thus, the Northern Border Region will, therefore, have its share of development and prosperity.
