Orel State University named after I.S. Turgenev (Orel SU) was founded in 1919 in the center of Russia. Orel is associated with the best works of the Russian literature of the XIX century. That is why it has the reputation of a literary region. Orel SU offers 84 undergraduate degree courses (full and part-time) which center around the major research and teaching programs, 15 specialist’s programs in 8 academic areas, 74  master’s programs provide opportunities for Bachelor’s degree graduates to continue their studies at the university. Orel SU provides the foundation course and the course of Russian as a Foreign Language, which help international students to adapt to the new country.

Orel SU is a leading university that organically combines education, research, expert and analytical services. About 18,000 students study at Orel SU, including about 1718  foreign students from 83  countries. Orel SU’s infrastructure consists of 19 institutions, 3 branches, a research library, and a volunteer center. The University implements more than 180 majors of various levels; there are 11 dissertation councils. The innovative infrastructure of Orel SU includes 16 scientific and educational centers, , 4 small innovative enterprises, University clinic “Translational  medicine”, 77 research and educational laboratories and 1 business incubator. The university campus contains 16 academic buildings, 9 students’ dormitories, an ice palace, a sport center, a swimming pool and a clinic.

Orel SU implements 84 Bachelor’s degree majors in various fields of knowledge. Bachelor’s degree programs ensure the formation of systematic knowledge and practical skills that allow students to solve theoretical and practical tasks according to their professional expertise. After graduating students receive a diploma of higher education, which gives an opportunity to continue their education in Master’s degree programs or to get a job successfully.

Orel SU provides education in 15 programs of first long degree in 8 academic areas. The standard period of study on these programs is 5 years. After that students receive the qualification of a specialist.

Orel SU implements 74  Master’s degree. Master’s Degree Programs are mostly focused on research activities and allow students to deepen their knowledge in the chosen fields of expertise. Our students benefit from strong links with employers. Students can also change the vector of education and choose a different field of study. Orel SU implements 9 Master’s programs on foreign languages.
