Across the two campuses, more than 36,000 undergraduate students are enrolled in addition to more than 1,500 postgraduate students. While the university is open for international applications, the majority of its students are from rural areas in North Bengal.
The University of North Bengal is also home to one of the few university museums in the whole of India. The Akshaya Kumar Maitreya Heritage Museum was established on university grounds in the mid-1960s and houses a variety of artefacts related to the history of North Bengal. This includes sculptures, coins, paintings and manuscripts.
