Ege University is a 60 year old state university that acts as a focal point for education, research, cultural and social activities in the city of Izmir and the Aegean region. Being a university with an international perspective, the educational system of Ege University is based on the principle of creative teaching and participatory learning. Ege University is a research based, teaching oriented institution, training students up to Doctorate level. In total of 70,000 students are enrolled at Ege University and the number of the academic staff is approximately 3,000. Over the last 60 years, Ege University has carried out many significant activities, not only in education and research, but also in the transfer of research results to the benefit of the society and in most of these it has been a pioneer. In all these activities, the goal of Ege University has been to create synergies through its strengths within the Research and Innovation ecosystem for a sustainable contribution to science and the society. Today Ege University is one of the leading “fourth generation” Universities in the World with its contribution to the society at national and regional levels through its research and researcher outputs. Ege University has a wide array of academic units, nationally renowned research groups and modern Laboratories suitable for interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral projects in collaboration with different stakeholders. Today, Ege University has 15 faculties, 6 four-year and 10 two-year vocational training schools with special programmes jointly developed in collaboration with industry, 6 Institutes, 35 Research Centres. Ege University has numerous joint projects and active cooperation with regional universities, national organizations, regional and national stakeholders, more than 74 EU FP Projects and over 1000 nationally funded projects since 2004, 32 Patents and Utility Models granted by Turkish Patent Institute.
