Formerly known as the Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University, the King George Medical University has had several name changes over the years. The foundation stone for the university was laid by King George V (at the time, the Prince of Wales) in 1906 - hence the current name. The university opened its doors five years later, with an official opening ceremony in January 1912. The university can be found in Lucknow, the capital city of Uttar Pradesh in India.
The university consists of four faculties and institutes: the Faculty of Medical Sciences; the Faculty of Dental Sciences; Institute of Paramedical Sciences; and the Institute of Nursing. Across these areas of study, the university enrolls up to 1,250 undergraduate students and 450 postgraduate students.
The city of Lucknow is one of India’s most multicultural urban centers and is known as a cultural and artistic hub in northern India. It’s also been at the center of some of India’s most important historical moments, so there is plenty to see, do and explore in your spare time when not busy studying.
