         The St. Petersburg State University of Film and Television provides training across the entire spectrum of specialties for the film, television and media industries. Its uniqueness consists in the complex formation of the competences of creative, technical and economic-management professions. For almost a century of history, the school has developed strong traditions that have become the basis for many creative discoveries of Soviet and Russian cinema. Since its inception, the institute has developed from a narrow-profile technical higher education institution to a comprehensive university. At present, the university implements 41 educational programs of higher education, such as "Sound Production of Audio-Visual Arts", "Cinematographer",  "Radio Engineering", "Actor’s Art", "Producing", "Film Studies", "Graphics", "Film and TV Directing", "Television", "Dramaturgy", etc.
The professorial and teaching staff of the University has about 350 people. More than 150 teachers are awarded with industry and state awards, more than 30 people have honorary titles.      
         The scientific life of students of the University includes the implementation of research projects, organization and holding of conferences, participation in symposia and subject Olympiads, as well as various other events, both at the University and outside. On the basis of the SIC of digital cinema  the International Scientific and Technical Conference "Digital and Information Technologies in the Electronic Media Industry" is held annually in the University.   
         The University of Film and Television is the owner of the "Nika" award for its contribution to the development of film education.
         Graduates and teachers of the University have repeatedly become prizewinners of the Venice Festival, winners of the Golden Eagle Prize, nominees for the Academy Award Oscar. Works of the University's students regularly participate and win in Russian and international festivals.
Student films were nominated for the student award "Oscar", their authors received prizes of the Russian festival "Kinotavr", the Berlin Film Festival, international film festival «ArtDocs», international film festival «Dokumenta Madrid», etc.
         Since 2001, the University annually holds the International Student Film Festival "PeterKiT", bringing together young and talented filmmakers, cameramen, sound engineers.
