The University of Banja Luka was founded in 1975. A public university, it is located in Banja Luka, Bosnia-Herzegovina. The university has 1,000 academic staff and 17,000 students.Banja Luka has 16 faculties:

The university has two campuses close to the city centre and near the river Vrbas. Accommodation, dining, sporting and computing facilities as well as numerous student clubs  are available at each.Banja Luka has agreements with an extensive range of universities across the world, including Serbia, Japan, Italy and Norway.Notable alumni include: Željka Cvijanović, politician and Prime Minister; Drago Prgomet, physician, university professor and politician; and Željko Kopanja, newspaper editor and director of the newspaper Nezavisne Novine.
