Access to the doctoral training of the LMD system is by competition. The doctorate is usually prepared in three years after obtaining a research master's degree or equivalent. This training makes it possible to obtain, after defense of a thesis, the rank of doctor. The terms of its organization and selection of candidates are set by Order No. 191 of 16 July 2012 amended and supplemented by Order No. 547 of 02 June 2016.
The PhD thesis consists of the preparation by the PhD student of an original research work that must be the subject of at least one publication in a recognized scientific journal.
The period of doctoral training is also considered as professional experience in the field of research and innovation, after which the PhD student is supposed to have acquired not only scientific and technical skills in his research theme but also those necessary to manage a project independently.
Henceforth, the completion of a doctoral dissertation should not only be synonymous with a change of grade in a teacher's career but must become a springboard for new careers, both in and out of the academic sphere. . It is therefore imperative that all those involved in doctoral training take into account the issue of employability in the management of the doctoral project and contribute to an ambitious professional integration of PhD students.

- In the field of expertise and study
- In all sectors where complex processes are implemented and where a Doctor will be able to put forward his capacities to propose and produce innovative solutions.
The first actors in a doctoral training are of course the PhD student and his supervisor (who is a teacher researcher or permanent researcher of magisterial rank qualified to direct or supervise PhD theses). Both are the bearers of the research project.
They are assisted in their task by a set of administrative, pedagogical and research structures that work to ensure the organization and smooth running of the training. PhD students must fully integrate into the life of the Laboratory and participate in all its activities.
These are the daily work places for PhD students. They ensure the scientific environment of the doctoral project (knowledge and expertise, networks, ..). But also the material environment corresponding to the project: premises, technical means needed for research, office and consumables, access to the bibliography etc ...
