Irkutsk State Transport University

Alongside with the levels of training that include bachelor's degree programs, specialist’s degree and master's degree programs, IrGUPS provides an opportunity for further training in research degree and doctoral studies. Those who apply to research degree studies are mostly the University’s graduates and employees, as well as the employees of the JSC "Russian Railways" and the related organizations.

IrGUPS trains specialists of higher and secondary vocational education for the railway industry and other branches of the national economy in 32 areas of higher professional education, 12 specialties of secondary vocational education.

Together with the training of engineering staff, the University conducts a wide variety of research works, making a significant contribution to the solution of scientific and technical problems associated with issues in the transport industry. It maintains close scientific relations and contacts with research institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences, institutes, organizations, enterprises, and foreign partners from Korea, China, Mongolia, with the universities in the region and the country.The scientists of IrGUPS are involved in many areas of industry reform, related to improving the quality and safety of transportation, improving the management system, introducing logistic ideas, and training railway personnel to work in modern conditions. Scientific support of engineering and technical developments, the rate of solution of scientific and technical problems are closely connected with fundamental and applied research.

The scientific schools of IrGUPS are:
- Dynamics of controlled technical systems;
- Technology of modeling of complex technical and socio-economic systems;
- Analysis and synthesis of real-time information control systems;
- Design of railways and engineering systems in complex engineering and geological conditions;
- Transformation of the economic mechanism in terms of structural changes in the economy;
- Automation control of high-frequency polymers processing;
- Electric power complexes of transport systems: energy saving, modeling, management;
- Chemistry of organoelement compounds. Directed synthesis and determination of the structure of organic and organoelement compounds;
- Ecology (environmental engineering);
- Activity-competence approach and the professional standards in the staff training system for the engineering University;
- Development of the integrated transport space at the Federal, interregional and regional levels.
