The University of Manizales , is a regional educational agency that began its history on July 24, 1972, as Cooperative for the Promotion of Higher Education. In 1983, it became Manizales University Foundation, and finally, the Ministry of National Education, through Resolution No. 2317, 1992, granted institutional recognition as a university. On Monday July 24th, 1972 at 6:30 pm, 200 students began classes in Accounting, Law, Economics and Psychology at the headquarters of the Industrial Technology Institute. Currently, the University of Manizales has about five thousand students, who pursue their careers in 15 academic programs, divided into five fields of knowledge: social sciences, economic sciences, engineering sciences, legal sciences and health sciences. To these we add 24 graduate programs: a Ph.D. in Social Sciences,, childhood and youth, more than 8 masters and 15 specializations. This, not to mention that the University has signed over 20 agreements with major centers of higher education in countries like Mexico, Italy, Chile, Argentina, Spain, and, of course, with the best institutions in Colombia.
